Korean Artists Association

Since its inception in 1964, Korean Artists Association of Southern California has been involved with various types of exhibitions to promote cultural exchange and harmony between Korea and other ethnic groups. The association has also encouraged younger generations to explore their artistic endeavors through Juried Art Student exhibition and Korean-American exhibitions. As years go by, younger artists have joined the group making this association even more lively than before. This special exhibition will feature fresh new ideas and designs along with sophisticated, more refined traditional art as well.

Bylaws of the Southern California Korean Artists Association

The Korean Artists Association of Southern California was originally launched in 1964 as the Los Angeles Korean Artists Association. During its early years in the 1960s, the association operated based ongeneral conventions rather than codified bylaws. In the 1970s, a provisional set of bylaws was drafted, and the organization was renamed the Korean Artists Association of Southern California. The current bylaws were finalized and passed after extensive revision and supplementation during the 14th General Assembly in 1978, and were subsequently published at the end of the association's exhibition catalog.

Since then, the bylaws have undergone partial amendments on November 20, 1987; during the 34th General Assembly in 1998; and during the 35th General Assembly on October 16, 1999, leading to the current version.

Chapter 1: Name

Article 1: The organization shall be named the Korean Artists Association of Southern California.

Chapter 2: Location

Article 2: The headquarters of the association shall be located in Los Angeles.

Chapter 3: Purpose and Activities

Article 3: The association aims to foster friendship among members, support artistic activities,              contribute to the cultural life of the Korean community, and promote art education.

Article 4: The association supports exhibitions of members' work, social gatherings, and     art-related activities involving members and the Korean community.

Chapter 4: Membership

Article 5: Membership consists of Korean artists residing in Southern California who have graduated from a regular university (or possess equivalent qualifications) and meet the requirements stipulated by the association.

Article 6: Regular members are those who have fulfilled their membership obligations for the preceding year; they possess the right to vote and the right to run for office in the General Assembly. 

Chapter 5: Officers

Article 7: The Association shall maintain an Executive Committee (President and Vice President), an Officer Group, and a Board of Directors for the operation of the Association. 

Article 8: The Executive Committee shall consist of one President and one Vice President. The President shall be elected at the General Meeting upon the recommendation of the Board of Directors, while the Vice President shall be appointed upon the recommendation of the President and the approval of the General Meeting. 

Article 9: The Officer Group shall consist of one General Secretary and one Treasurer, appointed upon the recommendation of the Executive Committee and the approval of the General Meeting. 

Article 10: When joining external organizations or participating in events in the capacity of the Association’s President, the President must obtain the consent of the Board of Directors; furthermore, the President shall refrain from joining organizations deemed incompatible with the Association's cultural values, even in a personal capacity. 

Article 11: Directors shall be elected at the General Meeting upon the recommendation of the current Executive Committee (including past presidents) and with the approval of the General Meeting. The current President and past presidents shall automatically serve as Directors; however, automatic Directors shall forfeit their status if they fail to submit works to the Association’s exhibition twice within a year. 

Article 12: Directors are required to attend Board of Directors meetings; failure to attend for one consecutive year shall result in the loss of Director status. 

Article 13: The Board of Directors shall be presided over by the President and serve an advisory role to the Executive Committee regarding matters such as artwork judging, awards and disciplinary actions, financial audits, and other important decisions. The Board must meet at least three times during the one-year term. 

Article 14: The Association’s Executive Board shall consist of the Executive Committee, the Officer Group, and the Directors. 

Article 15: The term of office for officers shall be two years; the term for the President shall be one year, with the possibility of serving one consecutive additional term.


Chapter 6: General Meeting

Article 16: The Regular General Meeting shall be held once a year, while Extraordinary General Meetings and Executive Board meetings shall be convened by the President as necessary. Article 17: The General Meeting shall be constituted by the attendance of a majority of the members.

Article 18: Resolutions of the General Meeting, including the election of officers, shall be decided by the approval of a majority of the members present.

Chapter 7: Miscellaneous

Article 19: The operating expenses of the Association shall be covered by membership dues and contributions from patrons.

Article 20: The Bylaws of the Association (comprising 7 chapters, 20 articles, and 3 supplementary provisions) may be amended as necessary with the approval of at least two-thirds of the members present at the General Meeting; however, any amendment must be submitted to the Board of Directors for discussion prior to the General Meeting.

Supplementary Provisions

1. Admission to the Association shall be determined following a review of ten submitted slides by the Executive Committee.

2. Members of the Association are required to fulfill their obligation to pay membership dues.

3. Works submitted for the Association’s exhibition must have been created within the past year and must not have been previously

남가주 한인 미술가 협회 정관

   본회 남가주한인미술가협회는 1964년 나성한인미술가협회로 발족하여 60년대 초창기는 정관을 성문화 하지 않고일반적인 규례에 따라 회를 운영해 오다가 70년대에 이르러 잠정적인 정관을 작성하여 회의 명칭도 남가주한인미술가협회로 개칭하고 1978년도 제 14차 정기총회에서 이 정관을 대폭 수정 보강하여 현재의 정관이 확정 통과 되었으며 이를 협회전 작품 목록 말미에 수록 발표하였다.

     이 후 1987년 11월 20일, 1998년도 제 34차 정기총회, 1998년 10월 16일, 1999년도 제 35차 정기총회에서 정관 일부를 개정하여 현재에 이른다. 

제1장  명칭

제1조: 본회는 남가주한인미술가협회라 칭한다.

제2장  위치
제2조: 본회는 본부를 로스엔젤레스에 둔다.

제3장  목적과 사업

     제3조: 본회는 회원 상호간의 친목과 작품활동 그리고 교표 정서생활과 미술교육에 기여한다.

     제4조: 본회는 전회원의 작품 발표회와 친목회 및 회원과 교포의 미술관계 활동에 협조한다.

제4장  회원

     제5조: 본회의 회원은 남가주에 거주하는 한국인 미술가인 정규대학을 졸업 혹은 이에 준한자로

   본회가 규정하는 제반사항에 부합하는 자로서 구성된다.

     제6조: 회원중 정회원은 전년도 회원의 의무를 완수한 회원으로 총회의 선거권과 피선거권을 갖는다.

제5장  임원

     제7조: 본회는 회의 운영을 위하여 회장단과 임원진 그리고 이사회를 둔다.

     제8조: 회장단은 회장 1명, 부회장 1명으로 구성되며 회장은 이사회의 추천으로 총회에서 선출하고

    부회장은 회장의 추천으로 총회의 인준을 받아 결정된다.

     제9조: 임원진은 총무 1명, 회계 1명으로 구성되고 회장단의 추천, 총회의 찬성을 받아 결정된다.

     제10조: 회장은 본회 회장 자격으로 대외적인 단체 가입이나 행사 참여시는 반드시 이사회의 동의를 얻어야하고

    비록 개인의 자격이라 할지라도 비문화적인 단체의 가입은 삼가야 한다.

     제11조: 이사는 전임회장들을 포함한 현회장단의 추천으로 총회의 찬성을 받아 선출되며

  현회장과 전임회장들은 자동적으로 이사에 임한다. 단 자동 이사중 연 2회 협회전 불 출품시에는 이사자격을 상실한다.

     제12조: 이사는 반드시 이사회에 참석하여야 하고 1년을 계속  불참석시에는  이사의 자격을 상실한다.

    제13조: 이사회는 회장이 관장하고 작품심사, 상벌관계, 재무감사, 기타 중요사항 결정등 회장단의 자문 역할을 하며

    1년 임기중 최소한 3번 이상 이사회를 가져야 한다.

     제 14조: 본회의 임원회는 회장단, 임원진, 이사들로서 구성된다.

     제15조: 임원 임기는 2년으로 하고 회장의 임기는 1년으로 하되 1년 연임할 수 있다.

제6장 총회

   제 16조: 정기총회는 년 1회, 임시총회, 임원회는 필요에 따라 회장이 소집한다.

   제 17조: 총회는 회원의 과반수 이상의 출석으로 성립된다.

   제 18조: 총회의 결의사항, 임원선출등은 출석회원 과반수 이상의 찬성을 얻어 결정된다.

제7장 기타

   제 19조: 본회의 운영비는 회원의 회비와  유지의 찬조금 등으로 충당한다.

    제 20조: 본회의 회칙은 전 7장 20조의 부칙 3항으로 필요에 따라 총회의 출석회원 2/3이상의 찬성을 얻어

  개정할 수 있으나 반드시 총회 이전 이사회에 통보하여 토의를 거친 후 총회에서 개정한다.

부 칙

     1. 본회 입회는 슬라이드 10장을 제출하여 임원회의 심사를 거쳐 결정한다.

     2. 본회의 회원은 회비 납부 의무를 완수해야 한다.

     3. 본회 작품 발표회의 출품작은 전시되지 않은 1년 이내에 제작된 작품이여야 한다.
